Metaverse and computer security

That we live in a world that is increasingly computerised and dependent on technological change is a fact, but to what extent will this technology, this virtual world, increasingly absorb what we now consider to be our real world?

We are talking, of course, about the metaverse, that “parallel reality” which still seems unreal to us… but which is increasingly taking over more and more of our daily lives.

Until now we have lived with the Internet, until it has become indispensable in our lives. But the web is, on many occasions, an immense chaos full of everything but security and guarantees for privacy, and at the moment, the uncontrolled growth in the use of the metaverse – that digital and virtual world where we can theoretically work, meet people and enjoy all kinds of leisure (in short, live) – can be guilty of the same thing.

So how can we bring together computer security and the metaverse? Or more broadly: what role should cutting-edge digital and audiovisual technology companies such as Bmotion play in metaverse-related services?

Undoubtedly, companies that are committed to providing their digital services in this new reality must have among their absolute priorities to develop safe virtual spaces, and establish policies so that users can interact, create and communicate while maintaining their privacy and promoting a code of ethics that avoids the online hate and toxicity that exists in many current social networks.

Technology companies that create digital solutions, including in the metaverse, must be firmly committed to guaranteeing the security of their users’ information and have among their priorities transparency and service warranty. This implies that a third party can analyse (and qualify) the services offered by the company, and evaluate both its security policies and its operations to know to what extent it is truly committed to computer security and the protection of its users’ data in order to guarantee to the most demanding customers who are concerned about cybersecurity a sufficient level of security in the service.

In short, the future of the metaverse is full of unknowns, but we do have one certainty: we still have a lot to know and develop in this field, but it is essential to develop, in parallel with the growth of this new world, the greatest guarantees of security and privacy for its users.
